Install a Solaris System to ARECA RAID VOLUME ******************************************************************** ================================================================ A. Before Installation: ================================================================ - Under DOS/Windows environment a. For take USB Flash drive as driver installation media. Unzip the the DU.zip to DU directory. Copy whole DU directory to /DU of USB Flash drive. b. For take CD/DVD as driver installation media. Write the arcmsr.iso to a CD/DVD disc by CD/DVD writer software. c. For take floppy diskette as driver installation media. Write the arcmsr.dd to a floppy diskette. X:\PATH\rawrite.exe arcmsr.dd A: Tips: You can get any rawrite.exe from world wide web search - Under Solaris or other Unix environment a. For take USB Flash drive as driver installation media. Label the USB Flash drive with "ARECA-DD". <== Important !!! Unzip the DU.zip to a directory. Copy whole DU folder to /DU of USB Flash drive. b. For take CD/DVD as driver installation media. Write the arcmsr.iso to a CD/DVD disc by CD/DVD writer software. c. For take floppy diskette as driver installation media. Write driver image file arcmsr.dd to a floppy diskette Put a floppy diskette into your floppy drive Generic unix: # dd if=arcmsr.dd of=/dev/fd0 Solaris:(USB floppy) # fdformat -d -U # dd if=arcmsr.dd of=/vol/dev/aliases/rmdisk0 bs=36k or # rmformat -U /vol/dev/aliases/rmdisk0 # dd if=arcmsr.dd of=/vol/dev/aliases/rmdisk0 bs=36k Solaris: # volcheck # fdformat -d -U # dd if=arcmsr.dd of=/vol/dev/aliases/floppy0 bs=36k # eject floppy P.S: If you do not have floppy drive on your system, you need to copy "DU" folder to your media and let your installation program attach it. Start Solaris Installation ============================================================================= ------------------------------------------------------------ ** For Oracle Solaris 11 2010/11(snv_151a), 2011/11(11.0) ------------------------------------------------------------ Boot your system from Solaris 11 Express live CD. On the Solaris Express Desktop: 1. Insert arcmsr driver diskette or USB Flash drive. 2. Open a Terminal Console 3. $ su Password: solaris 4. # rem_drv arcmsr 5. # /media/ARECA-DD/DU/sol_211/i86pc/Tools/install.sh !!! NOTE: if your driver media with label XXXX, replace above command path ARECA-DD with XXXX. When following message appear: "Do you want to create a new instance of this package [y,n,?,q]" y Type y to install driver arcmsr. After driver installed, you will see following message. ...... "Driver (arcmsr) installed" "Installation of was successful" 6. Click "Install Oracle Solaris" on the Solaris Desktop to start installation procedure. Following steps are for Solaris 11 2011/11 only =============================================== 7. After OS installation finished, and before reboot system. a. Open a terminal window. b. #su password:solaris c. # echo 'arcmsr "pci17d3,1880"' >> /a/etc/driver_aliases # bootadm update-archive -R /a where 1880 is for Areca ARC1880/1882, for ARC1280 there should be replace by 1280, ..etc --------------------------------------- ** For OpenSolaris 2009.06 (snv_111b) --------------------------------------- Boot your system from OpenSolaris live CD. On the OpenSolaris Desktop: 1. Insert arcmsr driver diskette or USB Flash drive. 2. Open a Terminal Console 3. $ su Password: opensolaris 4. # rem_drv arcmsr 5. # /media/ARECA-DD/DU/sol_211/i86pc/Tools/install.sh !!! NOTE: if your driver media with label XXXX, replace above command path ARECA-DD with XXXX. When following message appear: "Do you want to create a new instance of this package [y,n,?,q]" y Type y to install driver arcmsr. After driver installed, you will see following message. During configuring OS installation option for reboot, choice "Manual Reboot" Be sure to allocate space >= 10GB for / and >= 2GB for swap slice.
